Italy may be known for furniture and lighting design, but it is in their small neighbour of the Adriatic, Slovenia, which are based two of the brands we cherish the most, Rex Kralj and Vertigo Bird. While the first was published in O Editorial on several occasions, Vertigo Bird stands out for its refreshing approach to lighting design. Founded by Silvo Kačar and Sijaj Hrastnik, the Slovenian brand has since its foundation collaborating with designers and architects, local and international, with the aim of creating a collection that fill the niche between very upscale lighting and mass-produced lamps. Crossing tradition, by harnessing the knowledge of local artisans, and innovative technologies, Vertigo Bird offers simple, poetic and functional lamps that stand out for the small details that make all the difference. From Kokeshi table lamp, inspired by the typical Japanese dolls; Funnel, an inverted funnel; the Jinn ‘lantern’; or the original Balloon, the Slovenian brand turns ordinary silhouettes in unpredictable and engaging lighting, simply brilliant!
