Best of Portugal: Design

Inspired by the Spanish Tourist Office initiative developed with Monocle magazine in the last months and motivated by the lack of promotion of the best brands and places by the Portuguese Tourist Office, O Editorial will publish in the following weeks 50 of its favourite things in Portugal, from architecture and design to culture and style. In the ninth part of Best of Portugal series, the focus will be on some the best designers and brands:

De La Espada - Founded in 1993 by a portuguese and a spaniard, De La Espada is the most international portuguese brand. With all the products produced in a factory in northern Portugal, De La Espada collaborates with talented international designers like Ilse Crawford, Matthew Hilton or Autoban, taking the work of portuguese artisans to all the world.

Magda Alves Pereira - Known for the interior design projects and for being the founder of Bombaamor brand, Magda Alves Pereira is the right designer to remodel a house or design custom-made furniture. Besides that, Magda Alves Pereira was the person in charge of the image renovation of Cerne and the design of their Benjamim furniture range, as well she is the creative director and designer of Boa Safra.

Hugo Passos - Based in London, Hugo Passos is one the best portuguese designers to match functionality, simplicity and visual appeal. This magazine rack in walnut, produced in Portugal, was specially designed for Monocle, being the perfect place to store your favourite publications.

Show Me - Created by Diana Sequeira and Guilherne Braga da Cruz, Show Me is the only portuguese gallery dedicated to 'designart'. Acting as design editors, Show Me allows a group of portuguese and international creatives to develop projects without the constraints of industrial production.

Materia - Resulting from the cooperation between Amorim and Experimenta, Materia explores one the most charecteristic materials in Portugal, cork. Collaborating with the most renowned portuguese designers, like Miguel Vieira Baptista or Fernando Brízio, the portuguese brand presents an appealing collection of accessories and furniture.
